The Steeples landholding is offered at $1,215,000.
The above-listed preseason landholding sale price expires July 15, 2008.
The Steeples is named for the prominent natural terrain and dramatic rockscape vistas of this property. The landholding is comprised of 5.86 acres in total, including a 1.43-acre building and landscape envelope, and shared ownership of the entire 1,700 acres of Ranch at the Canyons.
The property is approached from Canyons Ranch Drive to the west. The entry driveway passes through the wildflowers of Russell Meadow, overlooking the stone-walled heirloom orchards, vineyards and lush open meadows of the Ranch and the Cascade Mountains in the distance. The residential building envelope is on a prominent peninsula, offering breathtaking views of the Crooked River canyon, the great natural obelisk of Monkeyface and the rockscape steeples and pinnacles of Smith Rock. The landholding extends from Canyons Ranch Drive to the Crooked River, protecting views in all directions. The landscape and building envelope for this property rests on a level bench of land surrounded by gnarled ancient juniper trees and offers a 360-degree view.
To the east The Steeples offers immediate views of the giant obelisk and well-named profile of Monkeyface, the Hands of God and other pinnacles of Smith Rock. These rockscapes offer breathtaking vistas, including the morning sunrise through the mist, the rise of the moon over Monkeyface and the warm glow of the rocks in the amber light of late afternoon.
The western portion of the landholding is comprised of Russell Meadow, planted in wildflowers and irrigated and managed by the Ranch. This meadow is named in honor of Israel Russell, the first scientist and geologist to study Central Oregon. Russell and two field assistants traveled by horseback from Prineville in 1903, and were the first to write about these dramatic steeples, pinnacles and canyons. Their photographs, taken from the Ranch, offer the first known images of these rockscapes.
To the north hiking and equestrian trails give The Steeples landholding easy access to Swordfish Beach and the unique Black Boulder fishing and recreational area at the entry to Black Rock Canyon. To the northwest this landholding views Coyote Butte, a prominent outcropping that is part of the Ranch. To the south the property overlooks heirloom orchards and the vineyards and pastoral meadows of Ranch at the Canyons. Across the meadows to the west the property enjoys unobstructed views of the snow-capped peaks of the Cascade Mountains including Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top and the Three Sisters.
The lower section of this landholding extends across the lush meadows of Monkeyface Canyon to the Crooked River. The Steeples has immediate and easy access to the surrounding canyons via gentle hiking and equestrian trails, as well as vehicular access through historic Ranch roads.
